St George and Sutherland Shire residents will have to put up with a few showers and a possible storm while doing their Christmas errands - but it'll be worth it when the clouds part and the sun comes out on Christmas Day.
For those spending Christmas in Sydney, the metropolitan area is forecast to have a maximum of 27 degrees with sunny conditions after an overnight low of 18 degrees.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, most of the nation will be enjoying a warm and dry Christmas Day with a large high-pressure system is likely to cover most of the continent on the big day, bringing temperatures in the high 20s and into the 30s to most capitals.
There is only the slight chance of rain for the majority of the country.
Meteorologist Grace Legge said that with Christmas still a few days away, conditions may change.
"The heatwave that is forecast to stretch from the north-west of Western Australia all the way to central NSW later this week will still be making its presence felt, as hot, dry air lingers, bringing very high temperatures to many inland regions," she said.
"Heat will be dragged through much of the country for Christmas, though sea breezes may keep some coastal areas a little cooler than inland parts.
