A Sutherland Shire man is busy planning a world trip after discovering on Monday that he had won $1 million in Lotto.
The Sylvania retiree held the only division one winning entry across Australia in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 3830, drawn on December 31 and won the guaranteed division one prize of $1 million.
The man told a NSW Lotteries official he was in a state of shock after discovering he was now a millionaire.
“I found out on Friday. At first, I thought it must be a hoax. I just didn’t think this kind of thing could actually happen,” he said.
“When I told my wife, we really didn’t know what to do. We didn’t want to jump up and down and get excited in case it really was a hoax!
“It still hasn’t sunk in. I’m glad it’s been confirmed, but I still don’t know how to feel.
“It’s a nice addition to the bank account.”
When asked how he planned to spend his Lotto windfall, the man revealed his million-dollar prize would help him tick off a few items on his bucket list.
“We’re retired, so it is definitely going to help with our retirement,” he shared.
“I also need a new car. Well I think I need a new car! So I might buy one.
“But I would love to travel all around the world. This will be a good start with that.
“I want to go back to Europe. We would like to go on a cruise to the Mediterranean. The Greek Islands will be our first destination.”
The million-dollar winning ticket was purchased from Sylvania Heights Newsagency on the Princes Highway, Sylvania.
Owner Carolyn Krogh said she was thrilled to have made one of her customers a millionaire.
“We are so excited for our winner! I really hope he enjoys his prize,” she exclaimed.
“What an amazing way to bring in the New Year.
“It has been such a great vibe in store! We’ve had so many customers coming in and asking if we are the winning store.
“We haven’t had a big win in a while, so we were certainly due for a one.
Another Sylvania prize yet to be claimed!
There is still a division one prize yet to be claimed from an entry purchased in Sylvania in recent months.
A mystery Sylvania shopper holding a winning entry in Saturday Lotto draw 3891, drawn on Saturday, November 3, 2018, won one of the nine division one prizes of $441,295.45.
This winning Lotto entry was purchased at Southgate Newsagency in the Southgate Shopping Centre at Sylvania.
NSW Lotteries spokesperson Ally Ramsamy said Sylvania Lotto players have plenty of reasons to check their entries today.
“There are over 440,000 reasons why Sylvania Saturday Lotto players should check their tickets today,” she said.
“You may not think it’s possible that you could be the division one winner we’re searching for, but if you purchased an entry in this draw that you haven’t checked yet, you’re in with a chance!”
