Approval has been given for a shop top housing development on the Oyster Bay Bakery Cafe site.
Two three-bedroom units will be built above shops, which at present are a bakery cafe and newsagency, situated at 123-127 Como Road.
Sutherland Shire Council planning officers approved the project, which has a an estimated construction cost of $620,000.
Architectural plans were revised during the assessment process.
Privacy, traffic and parking concerns were raised in two written submissions from nearby residents.
”Weekend traffic is chaotic, particularly during soccer season and when events, such as the Oyster Bay Arts and Craft Fair,” a Waterview Street resident said.
“The narrow roads are not suited for the influx of cars both travelling and parking on the roads and side streets.
“On weekends, my street is lined with cars that do not belong to residents which causes visibility issues entering and exiting my driveway.
“The street has high volumes of foot traffic with parents and children, sometimes unaccompanied, walking to the school, sporting fields, parks and the existing shopping village.
“Additional residential units above the bakery will bring extra vehicles to an area which is already at capacity in peak times and heighten the potential for both vehicular and pedestrian accidents.”
