Family and friends of a former St George and Cronulla great will come together to remember him on the 20th anniversary of his death.
The event will be held at Sambo’s Boxing, the boxing club Graeme Sams started, on January 31 – 20 years to the day since his passing. Sams died in 1999 following a long battle with cancer.
The 5.30pm training session will be followed by drinks at 6.15pm with all welcome.
‘Sambo’ played 72 first grade games for St George and 85 for Cronulla. He played 264 grade games in total between 1967 and 1977.
Sams started his boxing club at Jannali Pub in 1987 before it moved to Club on East in Sutherland.
The club continued on after his death with boxing sessions taking place several times a week at Prince Edward Park Oval opposite Woronora RSL.
The night will be a celebration of Sams’ life and his contribution to rugby league and boxing.
