Ms Berejiklian, who made the announcement Engadine station with Heathcote MP Lee Evans, said discussions to acquire a site were underway.
Following that, planning work and community consultation would start, with construction was expected to take 18 months from when a builder was appointed.
The proposed project follows the opening in July, 2017, of a 63-space commuter car park next to the train tracks at Engadine, south of the station.
Ms Berejiklian promised that project in March, 2015, just before the state election when she was the Minister for Transport.
The proposed multi-storey car park would take the number of spaces at Engadine to more than 300.
Parking at Engadine, Waterfall and Sutherland is also used by many residents from the Illawarra, who drive to the shire and catch the train.
The opening of a multi-storey, 388-space commuter car park at Sutherland in 2015 appears to have done little to meet the need, with big increases in rail patronage since then.
Commuters are parking on roads more than a kilometre away from Sutherland station and the situation at other stations is not much better.
Ms Berejiklian said the proposed new facility at Engadine was only possible because of the Coalition government’s strong economic management.
“We are doing all we can to encourage people to use public transport and extra car spaces give commuters a good reason to do so,” she said.
Me Evans said the proposed Engadine car park would address the increasing demand for parking in the area following enormous growth on in the number of passengers on the train network,
