For patients considering cosmetic surgery, usually one of their biggest concerns is whether the surgery will leave any scarring.
As a specialist plastic surgeon, Dr Adrian Sjarif utilises short scar techniques whenever possible to reduce visible scars, hiding them in natural skin creases and orientating them in such a way that they heal almost imperceptibly.
He also uses shorter incisions, a meticulous suturing technique and appropriate suture type and size to ensure that your scarring is kept to a minimum.
“I will also remove your sutures in a timely manner, as leaving sutures in for too long can oftentimes lead to poor scarring,” Dr Sjarif said. “I can also suggest various options that you can utilise following your surgery to improve and minimise any noticeable scars.”

Dr Sjarif is a sought-after surgeon who has extensive experience in both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery procedures. He received his Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS). This Fellowship is the only government recognised surgical training program for plastic surgeons in Australia.
Following completion of his training in Australia, Dr Sjarif was invited to complete a further 12 months of specialty training at the prestigious Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, rated the number one hospital for cancer care in the United States.
Dr Sjarif offers plastic surgery procedures for the face, body and breasts as well as complex skin cancer removal and reconstructive surgery after trauma or disease.
“I perform all types of breast surgery including breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, gynaecomastia reduction for men, and all forms of breast reconstruction after cancer including the use of implants as well as free tissue flaps.
“I take the tissue from a woman’s abdomen or thighs and transfer it up to her chest to create a breast using microsurgical techniques,” he said.
“Aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery is one of my main interests and an area in which I have extensive experience.”
Body contouring procedures are available to help remove excess skin following rapid weight loss or to help patients remove stubborn and unwanted fat through liposuction or abdominoplasty. Mummy makeovers can also help mums get their post-baby body back.
Another niche procedure is labiaplasty, which is performed to fix labia that are large, protruding, asymmetrical or otherwise irregularly shaped.
In addition to these, Dr Sjarif offers all facial rejuvenation procedures including facelift, necklift, brow lift, otoplasty (ears), eyelid rejuvenation and rhinoplasty (nose) surgery. Maxillofacial reconstructive procedures can repair broken jaws, cheekbones and eye sockets after trauma and hand surgery can mend hand fractures and lacerations.
Dr Sjarif has consulting rooms in Miranda and Kogarah as well as in Wollongong.
