Sutherland will have a not-so secret weapon at the National Premier T20 Championships in the form of former Australian Test captain Steve Smith.
Smith has played NSW Premier Cricket with his boyhood club during the 2018-19 season after his ban from international and domestic cricket for his role in Australia's ball-tampering scandal in South Africa almost a year ago.
He helped lead Sutherland to the T20 Cup at the Sydney Cricket Ground in December where he captained the side to victories over St George in the semi-final and Sydney University in the final.
But it is believed that was the weekend when he first hurt his elbow, which has seen him undergo surgery and racing the clock to be fit for Australia's World Cup and Ashes campaigns later this year at the conclusion of his ban.
It is likely Smith would have played for Sutherland in Adelaide if not for the elbow injury.
Ben Dwarshuis is also unavailable through injury, while Shane Watson is playing in the Pakistan Super League.
Victorian clubs Carlton and Dandenong, Melville from Western Australia, North Hobart, South Australia's East Torrens, University of Queensland, City Cyclones from the Northern Territory and the ACT's Tuggeranong Valley will join Sutherland and Sydney University in the 10-team tournament.
The tournament starts on Tuesday with the finals to be played on Wednesday.
Matches will be streamed online at cricket.com.au.
