The Coalition has made a major pitch to commuters in the last week of the state election campaign with a promise to cut the cap on Opal cards to $50 a week.
The present maximum commuters can pay in a week is $63.20.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the change would take effect from July 1 if the Coalition is re-elected.
Two of nine examples that were given target voters in the Heathcote electorate, where Labor's Maryanne Stuart is in a close contest with sitting Liberal Lee Evans.
A commuter travelling from Waterfall to Town Hall or from Engadine to North Sydney will save $563 a year under the proposed change.
Ms Berejiklian said the cut amounted to about 20 per cent for all train, bus, ferry and light rail travellers.
"We expect around 55,000 commuters will benefit from the lower cap, with thousands to save up to $686 a year," she said.
Transport and Infrastructure Minister Andrew Constance said all other Opal benefits would remain, including the Weekly Travel Reward, the Opal Transfer Discount, the $2.50 Gold Opal cap and the $2.70 Sunday Cap.
