The 4,250 new apartments currently planned or approved in the Kogarah electorate will see 1,300 new students dropped into over-crowded local schools, according to research by Kogarah MP Chris Minns.
Parents in Kogarah, Hurstville and Carlton will soon see a crisis in their schools as the massive influx of new students.
Yet the State Government has no new schools planned for the area, Mr Minns said.
When complete, these new dwellings will house more than 11,700 additional people," he said.
"This is the equivalent of the entire population of a major regional centre like Parkes moving into the Kogarah electorate in a couple of years.
"According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, this means an additional 1,300 children will be competing for a place in local primary and high schools."
Mr Minns said the electorate's schools cannot cope with such a massive influx of new kids in such a short space of time.
"Under the NSW Liberals the equivalent of the population of Parkes will soon be crammed into Hurstville, Kogarah and Carlton.
"But not a single new classroom is planned for the area. To put this in perspective, Parkes has five primary and one high school servicing their children," he said.
"The kids in Kogarah deserve a quality education but they won't get it if every classroom is packed and teachers are stretched to breaking point.
"The only way to stop the overcrowding of our schools is to put an end to the Liberal party's overdevelopment policies," Mr Minns said.
