Sewage overflow empathy
In response to the article "Big stink over raw sewage" (Leader, March 27).
We have complete empathy for those affected by the raw sewage flowing through their backyards.
We would like to draw attention to this issue as we too have had this happen to us three times in the past year.
The clean up afterwards is the worst part - although the cleaning crew comes through - you still find bits and pieces around for months after as you are gardening around your property.
Like those affected in Carabella Street - they have not seen this in the whole 45 years they have lived here until now - we too have lived here for 41 years and had never had an issue until 12 months ago when the first incident occurred.
Sydney Water does not seem to care, we have been pressing for a camera inspection and to date this has still not been conducted.
With the overdevelopment in the area I am sure this is also contributing to the issue. Originally there were six homes on our stretch of the block - now only one lot is a single home - the rest have been turned into dual occupancies or more - with a total of 15 dwellings now on the six lots.
A bit of empathy from Sydney Water would help in this situation as no one wants to wade through raw sewage and secondly a proper investigation of these issues as a priority would help in hopefully stopping this from occurring again.
Perhaps educating the people in the area on what can and can not be put down the toilet would also help.
Remember the three P's - if it's not pee, poo or paper - it should not be flushed down the loo!
