Man charged after passenger allegedly assaulted and robbed on train at Rockdale

A man will appear in court today charged after he allegedly assaulted and robbed another train passenger at Rockdale yesterday.

About 8.40pm on Sunday a 23-year-old man caught a city-bound train from Mortdale.

A man and woman boarded the train at Hurstville and spoke to the man already on the train.

The couple asked the passenger for money before attempting to grab hold of his wallet.

Following a short struggle, the man punched the passenger in the face causing him to fall over before taking his wallet and getting off at Rockdale Railway Station with the woman.

The passenger travelled to Central and notified police.

Following inquiries, officers from St George Police Area Command arrested a 19-year-old man at a Bexley unit about 2am on Monday.

He was taken to St George Police Station and charged with aggravated robbery.

The man was refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today.

Inquiries continue.
