There could be lots of smoke over parts of Sutherland Shire for three days during a major fire hazard reduction in Royal National Park.
National Parks and Wildlife Service, assisted by the NSW Rural Fire Service, will conduct the burn from Sunday, April 28 to Tuesday, April 30.
The 160 hectare area to be burnt immediately adjoins the East Heathcote community.
NSW Rural Fire Service Sutherland Shire said about 80 firefighters would participate, "taking advantage of ideal conditions which are currently forecast".
"A helicopter is also expected to assist in the operation," the service said.
"Once completed, the burn will complement an existing asset protection zone that surrounds the area providing additional protection to nearby homes and a school.
"Should the burn be postponed due to weather, a further update will be provided.
"The community can expect further hazard reductions across the area over coming weeks, should conditions remain suitable."
