The teaching of Asian languages at one primary school in Sutherland Shire has gone live.
Year 4 pupils connect directly to China to learn Mandarin each week, with interactive lessons taking place from Beijing.
For the first time this year, the school has jumped on board the trial facilitated by My Chinese Teacher.
It is the largest provider of live online Chinese education in the world, and was founded in 2012 by Victorian school friends Tom Shugg and Sam Dean.
Classes take place across Australia, New Zealand and the US, teaching more than 18,000 pupils weekly.
Lessons are delivered over video conferencing software using technology already available in the classroom.
Co-director, Tom Shugg, says the lessons expand teaching horizons.
"What we love about our program is that any school can utilise the technology they already have, whether it be a laptop computer. interactive whiteboard or TV," he said.
"Using technology helps us engage students at a higher level while opening students minds to a global world."
