Round two of the 2019 Sharkskin NSW IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boat) Premiership Series was held at The Lakes SLSC on the Central Coast on 18 - 19 May.
North Cronulla SLSC was one of the 23 clubs that got their engines running to see how they measured up against each other ahead of the final two rounds and the State and Australian Championships.
Sitting in fourth position the young North Cronulla team is mixing it with the 'big boys' and sit only behind Kiama Downs,Caves Beach and Terrigal on the accumulated pointscore after round two.
In the first round their major points were earned by the Open Women who took out the Open Female Mass Rescue and Open Female Teams Rescue events as well as the premier race on the day,the Open Mixed Relay.
Round two was a different story with only one win on the day in the u23 Mixed Mass Rescue, but with five second places the points still added up leaving them in a fighting chance behind the big guns.
SLSNSW Surf Sports Manager Rob Pigeon said the conditions at the Lakes were challenging with a one-metre shore-dump but the drivers and crew's raced at an exceptionally high level taking into account safety, technique and professionalism.
Kiama Downs SLSC is the team to beat once this year once again bringing their a-game. The South Coast team has now taken out two-from-two events and will be hard to beat.
Ahead of the third round coming up at Cape Hawke on June 1-2 , the North Cronulla team will review their shortfalls to ensure they stay in touch.
At the end of the four-event rounds, the club with the top points will be awarded the title of NSW Premiers.
