It doesn't feel like winter but it must be close because the Sutherland Shire Spinners and Weavers club is once again presenting an exhibition and sale of the work of its members at the annual Winter Wool Fair.
Featuring displays of an amazing variety of woollen creations there are also spinning and weaving demonstrations and suppliers selling fibres, yarns and equipment.
The Uniting Church hall at the corner of Merton and Flora st Sutherland will be overflowing with an amazing display of unique woollen creations that the members have been creating for display and sale.
Chris McLennan is a relatively new member of the Sutherland Shire Spinners and Weavers, but is fast becoming an expert spinner and weaver.
"I learnt to spin because my brother was shearing alpacas and was throwing the wool away" Chris said
"Now I have to learn to weave it into something useful. Alpaca is good for blending with other yarns to make scarves, blankets and clothes"
There is everything to see from home-grown fleece spun to create wonderful garments with knitting, crocheting, dyeing and weaving with an amazing variety of fibre craft/artworks, including woollen, silk, cotton, alpaca, soya, bamboo, cashmere and mohair creations.
Admission to the two-day Winter Wool Fair is free at the Sutherland Uniting Church Hall (corner of Merton and Flora Street) from 9.30am to 4.30pm on Friday May 31 and Saturday June 1.
