Supporters of Sylvanvale's Retail Therapy gathered together at a luncheon to celebrate the store's 50th anniversary recently.
The event also raised funds for children and young people with disability.
About 100 guests attended the luncheon, which was held at 1908 Cronulla Restaurant on May 24 during National Volunteer Week.
The event celebrated and recognised community contribution. Emceed by Sutherland Shire councillor Carol Provan, the event included a fashion show and interview with Australian fashion stylist Kimberley Skye.
Sutherland mayor Carmelo Pesce was also there to mark the occasion, with Sylvanvale representatives and life members including Lorna Stone and Jill Pracy, alongside volunteers, employees and families.
Retail Therapy is a profit-for-purpose opportunity shop at Caringbah that sells recycled fashion and homewares.
Funds raised from every sale go to supporting and empowering people with disability to live the life they choose.
The shop includes a dedicated team of about 40 volunteers and employs people with disability, providing them with valuable skills.
Sylvanvale's chief executive Leanne Fretten recognised the many people who have supported the initiative.
"Our Retail Therapy volunteers work tirelessly to help raise funds for people with disability," she said.
"Thanks to their efforts, as well as our talented all-abilities employees and the support of the people who donate and shop with us. Retail Therapy has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for equipment and services for people with disability since its inception 50 years ago.
"We are very grateful to them and to the people who attended and supported our 50th anniversary luncheon today. Because of their collective contribution, Sylvanvale can continue to make a difference to the lives ofpeople with disability."
