Ever wanted to take on something that pushes you outside your comfort zone while gaining a skill you never had before? Well perhaps Scottish Highland Dancing is for you.
Recently St George residents, Skye Campbell-Parmee (13) and Amy Young (14) took part in the Eastern Australian Scottish Highland Dancing competition - one of the highest ranked events in the dance form in Australia.
The event saw the girls take out top honors picking up a combined six first, one second and one third places between them making them apart of the best dancers in the country in the tough disciplines of Reel, Fling and Seann Triubhas.
While this dance sport is not widely known amongst the community local trainer Karen McPhillips believes taking up the niche sport would help discipline in all facets of life.
"Highland dancing creates self-drive within the dancers and most come to be very successful in their day-to-day lives. With a lesson or two it is a sport which can be enjoyed by all."
