A severe weather warning has been issued for St George and Sutherland Shire with damaging winds and heavy surf.
The Bureau of Meteorology said large powerful surf conditions are expected for coastal activities such as rock fishing, swimming and surfing.
Sutherland Shire Council has closed all turf sporting fields due to the wet weather.
State Emergency Services volunteers have been called out to several minor jobs including leaking roofs.
Temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 17 degrees with 95 per cent chance of rain. There is the chance of gusty thunderstorm with possible heavy falls along the coast this morning.
The Bureau is predicting rainfall of between 34 to 60mm.
Winds will be west to south-westerly 35 to 55km/h early in the day reaching to 65 to 85 km/h about the coast. Winds will decrease to 45 to 65km/h in the early afternoon.
Tomorrow the temperature is expected to reach a maximum of 18 degrees with 90 per cent chance of showers.
Rainfall is predicted to be between 8 to 15mm.
