Project Youth, which works with disadvantaged young people between the aged of 12-24, developed Labour Y in 2017 to assist in building work skills as a social enterprise.
TAFE NSW students who studied a Statement in Education and Employment Pathways, recently developed their horticulture studies with the garden project, in partnership with Georges River Council. Five students helped create the garden for the Senior Citizen Centre.
"It was identified that there was a need to assist and support young people into employment or further training with a total of just over 3800 young people disengaged in St George and Sutherland Shire," Karen Tsoumbaras from Project Youth said.
"It was [also] identified that the seniors would love a vegetable garden and other plants to enhance the look of the front of the centre.
"Our young people have worked very hard along with their teacher to create this beautiful space.
"There have been some amazing outcomes from the course, close relationships have been formed with the young people not knowing each other at the beginning and now spending time together."
