A Queensland parliamentary committee will examine the safety of elderly patients and the quality of their care at a Gold Coast nursing home.
Politicians from across the political spectrum will use coercive powers in September to get to the bottom of what went on before the sudden closure of the Earle Haven Retirement Village.
About 70 residents remain distressed with some struggling to cope since the July 11 closure.
"It is a national shame that this has happened," state Labor MP and Health Committee Chair Aaron Harper said on Friday.
"Everyone deserves answers. Our priority is to ensure what has happened at Earle Haven doesn't happen to other homes and residents."
The alarming use of physical restraints and psychotropic drugs the home should have raised alarm bells, a commissioner said at the aged care royal commission hearings in Brisbane on Friday.
The Queensland parliamentary hearings will be held on September 11 and 12 at the Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.
