Re the article "MRI knockback: Federal government rejects Sutherland Hospital's licence application for scanner" (Leader, August 14).
I was admitted to Sutherland Hospital after suffering a minor stroke and I needed to have a MRI.
I was advised the hospital did not have an MRI and I needed to be transported to St George Hospital along with other sick patients requiring the same service. We spent many hours sitting in chairs and our blood pressure etc not monitored all day.
At election time we see politicians (state and federal) featured in newspapers/ television etc promising a better public hospital system - surely common sense must tell them that MRI machines should be available in all public hospitals.
David Arthur Slim
I needed an MRI following child birth and had to wait until I was discharged to have one privately because the hospital was unable to arrange one at another hospital that had the facilities.
Felicity Collins
This is a disgrace! There should be more MRI machines available in the St George and Sutherland Shire as I have waited over six weeks to get in twice, and finished up with 10 pm appointments. Absurd! The government needs to wake up to the urgent need for this equipment at Sutherland Hospital!
Michelle Rogers
Sutherland Hospital should be a priority for a MRI machine. Where are all the local politicians, obviously have not had need of one!
Kay Cook
In a major hospital like Sutherland it should be a standard piece of equipment.
Jan Gartrell
This is disgraceful. When my husband was in St George hospital, he couldn't get an MRI because all the private patients were being sent from Sutherland Hospital and they were given precedence.
Dianne Cassidy
This is ridiculous. Five years ago I was in an induced coma with sepsis and needed an MRI but was too unwell to be transported to St George so they went without.
Thankfully the doctors got me through it. And last October I had to go to St George for a nuclear scan that they couldn't do at Sutherland. Not good enough!
Amanda Martz
The cost of ambulance transfers to fro would pay for it - unbelievably stupid!
Robyn Parkinson
Get your act together government we are getting older as a population and need the machines stop playing games to make private contractor foot the bill and charge accordingly.
Frank Farries
Ridiculous in this day and age that an MRI machine isn't mandatory in all major hospitals.
