RE the article "Watery grave: Shock decision to close the Carss Park Pool" (Leader, July 31).
A new pool needs to be built as it is an ideal place for one - not for some real estate moneymaker for council.

I have been involved in draining many pools in my career and pools can crack if the water is drained too fast from a pool. There is a specific rate that the pool water must be pump out to drain a pool to avoid the pool shell breaking or tiles cracking causing extra damage, just wondering if this was followed

$5 million should be enough to build a new pool. I reckon overseas investors would be rubbing their hands together with glee with the prospect of an opportunity to grab a prime development site. Replace the pool!

Thanks to the detail provided, I can now understand the technical and pollution issues leading to the closure of Carss Park Olympic Swimming Pool.
I also concur with the exceptional popularity burdens on Bexley, Hurstville (and Sans Souci), especially during, but not confined to, school carnival season.
But I can't understand why such critical issues weren't addressed earlier, when they were readily apparent and a replacement better planned in the face of planned population growth in St George.
And surely, since Kogarah Bay pollution is such an onerous concern of the EPA, then it would also be looking into effluent discharge and dodgy stormwater runoff.
R Piech, Sans Souci
The mayor and other councillors are to blame for this. You did not see to, or care about, its maintenance. This is a total disgrace. Repair or rebuild it.
