Retail Your Rubbish will return to the Georges River area on Saturday, September 21, September, providing people with the opportunity to bag a bargain in the lead-up to one of Council's routine Kerbside Clean-up collections.
Approximately 50 Penshurst households have been registered to host a Retail Your Rubbish garage sale with events scheduled for various times throughout the day.
Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene hopes locals will support the initiative and get along to see what's on offer.
"As the saying goes, 'one person's trash is another person's treasure' - you just never know what unique items you might discover, and the more our hosts sell, the less waste ends up in landfill," Councillor Greene said.
"Additionally, Retail Your Rubbish is a really great way for people to meet their neighbours, and build a sense of community and cooperation.
"Council staff members are working hard to build community awareness in relation to what individuals can do in order to be more waste smart, and ultimately help reduce harm to the environment.
"These days, there seems to be a growing ethos of reuse and repair, as community members increasingly understand the importance of sustainability, and realise that there's a great deal of satisfaction in restoring or repurposing household items.
"On the day, we'll have Council staff members set up at McRaes Reserve between 8am and 11am with hard copy maps that identify participating households, as well as a food truck providing light refreshments.
"So come and bag a bargain, and help make a difference in your community by reducing waste to landfill and contributing to Sydney's circular economy," Cr Greene said.
