EARLIER
Kogarah High School and Endeavour Sports High School are finalists in this year's NOVA Focus on Ability Short Film Festival.
The schools are finalists in the open entrant category.
Kogarah's film titled Peter Pan - The Kogarah Re-Enactment is about the magical world of staying young - a quality treasured by students in the support unit. The film symbolises the idea that students can stay safe and escape to a fantasy world where disabilities are considered a strength and not a weakness.
In their version, Peter Pan is portrayed as a boy with autism. This was a reference point for many students with autism and other disabilities who struggle with the notion of growing up and conforming to society. The film provided a platform for students to practice appropriate social cues, discuss their interests, express their creativity and for some, develop an acceptance of their disability.
Endeavour's film is titled Dream Big.
Students will be attending a red carpet event at The Concourse Concert Hall, Chatswood, on Friday, September 6.
