A drug smuggler has admitted concealing heroin inside his body in a bid to outsmart border authorities at a Victorian airport.

The plan failed and Gunalan Subramaniam, 39, has pleaded guilty to importing a marketable quantity of drugs into Avalon Airport on June 25.
The former jet ski operator from Malaysia was caught with 18 pellets of heroin, mostly in his abdomen, after arriving from Kuala Lumpur, court documents show.
He played tourist but his luggage suggested otherwise. As did his toilet habits.
After two plastic-wrapped pellets of heroin were found inside a pair of Lee jeans in Subramaniam's bag, he asked to use the bathroom where Australian Border Force officials found three more.
By this time, Subramaniam appeared unwell and was taken to hospital where scans revealed 13 pellets in his abdomen.
Nearly 100 grams of heroin were seized, alongside a similar amount of the by-product acetylcodeine.
When questioned by police, Subramaniam said "I only brought a-hundred-and-eighty grams".
He remains in custody after pleading guilty in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday, and is due back in court on February 25.
