The St George Art Society will host its members' annual art awards evening on Friday, October 25, the date being a focal point on the art calendar in the St George area as it opens the society's art show, which has been running for 75 years at the heritage Kogarah School of Arts building, in Queens Avenue.

The show runs over the weekend of October 26,27 and there is free entry to the exhibition which is open from 10am-4pm-there is a $10 donation at the Friday arts award evening with all the proceeds donated to the Lamrock Committee of St George Hospital.
Visitors are also encouraged to vote for the 'peoples choice' award as they walk through the exhibition with the winner announced on Sunday afternoon along with the winner of the raffle artwork-a waterclour by Helen Goldsmith 'Merroo' which was donated by vice president Myrle King.
Society members have been preparing their artworks over the past 12 months with the aim of winning an award in this historic 75th exhibition founded in 1944 near the end of WW2.
Judging the awards will be renowned Sydney Archibald Prize winning artist Wendy Sharpe.
The Hon. David Coleman MP and Mr Chris Minns MP will attend the Opening Night, and aboriginal elder Deanna Schreiber will give the 'Welcome to Country' .
Mark Coure the MP for Oatley will attend the High School Student Presentation on Saturday to present award certificates and Art Society gift vouchers for the best visual's by students.
Jean Harrow the society president said they have two new perpetual paintings from past member Mitzi Tilley which will be presented to the winners to keep for the following year-and Georges River Council have donated a discretionary gift of new art society painting aprons and T- shirts.
"There are two halls overflowing with over 150 artworks presented by 40 artists in a range of mediums from oil,watercolour and acrylic to the contemporary mixed media,in a variety of styles from traditional,still life,portraits and abstract,life drawing,outdoor ketches and local High School students work" Jean said
"Its a great opportunity to view and buy original cost effective art of a very high standard"
