The teams will meet again this coming Saturday in round two, this time on the Boomers' home court.
Spirit coach Tracy York said there were several aspects of the team's performance that would be refined during training sessions this week.
"We need to work out how we were so wide-open and be able to block them out," York
"We had done some work on it, but they (Boomers) are just beasts on the board."

Spirit's Martè Grays said the team would learn from the opening round defeat.
"Our captain Kelly Wilson said it was an eye opener for the whole team," Grays said.
"This week we will put pressure on ourselves at practice and push each other even more.
"We will learn from this game how as a team we can get better."
Grays was named as the team's MVP, but the import recognised several areas of her own performance which she planned to improve before the re-match next Saturday.
"The game was good for me, one of my best since I came over here (Australia)," Grays said.
"But finishing and my defence needs to get better, timing wise I feel like I'm a little slow on my feet so I just need to pick it up a bit.
"Finishing, defence and rebounding that's what's going to help win games."
