Artist Jill Cairns has won the Best in Show Prize at the Oatley 101 Society of Artists Annual Exhibition.
The Oatley 101 Society of Artists recently held its 20th Annual Members' Exhibition hosted by the society's president, Jill Hamilton at the St George Maso's Club at Mortdale last weekend.
The exhibition was officially opened by the Federal Member for Banks, David Coleman who noted the valuable part the Oatley 101 Society of Artists plays in the local community.
Georges River Council mayor, Kevin Greene presented the Society's annual awards including Jill Cairns who won the Best in Show Award for her work, "Great Southern Land".
Jill grew up in the Sutherland Shire where she developed a keen interest in the visual arts.
She was accepted into the National Art School for the Graphic Design Diploma and then went on to complete a Diploma of Education which allowed her to teach.
Jill has won many awards in exhibitions and competitions across NSW for oil, pastel and charcoal.
Despite her move to Port Macquarie some years ago Jill maintains her membership of the Oatley 101 Society of Artists where she continues to exhibit her work with the Society, and shares her skills with members through demonstrations and workshops that the Society holds.
Other Winners included Cheryl Kirby for Traditional Oil or Acrylic, Helga Kelly for Water Medium, Jan Schuster-Callus for Works on Paper and Renate Fischer for Abstract/Contemporary.
The People's Choice Award went to "Morning on the Harbour" by Freda Surgenor.
Sponsors of the Society's Annual Awards were PRD Nationwide Oatley, Georges River Council, Maso's who also provided the exhibition venue, Jasco on behalf of Winsor and Newton and Liquitex, and Ardency Aroona.
