Events Cinema hosted the annual school film festival on October 23 with a red carpet event.
The stars were the pupils themselves, who were front and centre behind the camera telling their story through film for all to enjoy.
Film by the Sea embeds visual literacy and film-making into classroom practice in NSW public schools to provide an engaging way for pupils to achieve educational outcomes.
It is a Sutherland Shire public schools event run by Grays Point Public School principal, Narelle Betts Smith and Miranda Public School's John Skene and Jade McMillan.
After months of planning, scriptwriting, acting, filming and editing, pupils from Kindergarten to year 6 celebrated their work with their families at premiere screening of their films in the VMAX theatres.
In this year's festival many films explored community and global environmental concerns, that highlighted childrens' talents in visual technology.
Grays Point pupils produced 'The Sea Horse Hotel' documentary, a combined project with Sutherland Shire Council and sea dragon diving, to protect the Sydney seahorse population, with a musical interpretation titled 'Stifled'.
There to see work up on the screen included Sutherland Shire Mayor Carmelo Pesce, Executive Director of Schools Operations and Performance Sylvia Corish, Director of Educational Leadership Karen Shehata, among others.
Showcasing to a large audience was exciting for pupils, Mrs Betts Smith said.
"It is [also] so exciting to see our local teachers offering future- focused, engaging, creative programs in their classrooms," she said.
"It offers an opportunity for all learners to be involved in something really engaging and special," festival manager Mr Skene said.
"Something they will remember for a lifetime."
