Plenty of Sutherland Shire drivers were caught disobeying road rules behind the wheel in just one night this month.
On Friday evening, October 25, NSW Police were conducting 'Operation Interceptor' (substance testing), with a large number of officers including local highway patrol conducting random testing in the shire.
A presence of more than 50 police flagged down drivers of cars, motorbikes and buses. Unmarked police cars were also observing driver behaviour around licensed premises.
Nearly 2500 breath tests and more than 100 drug tests were carried out.
Hundreds of infringements were handed down and some licences were suspended on the spot.
A total of 25 drivers were arrested for drink driving, 17 more for driving affected by cocaine, methamphetamine or cannabis.
Police stated that of particular concern were drivers under the influence of drugs and the 'stupidity' of one female driver who was caught driving at three times over the legal limit.
