We have all seen photos and videos of members of the public banding together on the sand to help rescue a stranded whale or dolphin.
Now is your chance to learn what to do if a whale, dolphin, seal, dugong or other sea creature comes ashore by becoming an ORRCA rescue member.
The Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia (ORRCA) has been performing rescues since 1985 and is the only volunteer licensed group in NSW allowed to do so.
ORRCA's rescue training team will hold an all-day marine mammal rescue workshop at Kurnell on Saturday, November 23, from 8.30am.
The workshop covers biology, reasons for stranding, marine mammal incident co-ordination, legislation and ORRCA protocols.
There is also a physical training component of the workshop with practical hands-on sessions about whale and dolphin rescue using training aids filled with water.
ORRCA says no experience is necessary, just a passion and willingness to lend a hand and make a difference for these amazing marine mammals.
The workshop costs $90. ORRCA membership is also required in order to do the workshop and is $30 for one year or $60 for three years.
