St Vincent's Care Services Heathcote, formerly known as John Paul Village, celebrated the official opening of its new $40 million residential aged care building with a blessing ceremony today.
The 91-bed St Anne's Wing, which welcomed its first residents in late October, was officially opened during a ceremony attended by Sutherland Shire Mayor Carmelo Pesce and representatives of St Vincent's Health Australia, Trustees of Mary Aikenhead Ministries, St Vincent's Care Services, and others.
St Vincent's Care Services Heathcote manager John Kemsley said the celebration was an opportunity to give thanks for the wonderful care delivered at the site over the past 34 years.
"John Paul Village has always been a very close-knit facility and one that is beloved by the local community," he said.
"We are all looking ahead to the future together as we commit to continue this work as St Vincent's Care Services Heathcote."
John Paul Village underwent a name change in September following the transition from the Trustees of Catholic Aged Care Sydney.
At the time, Trustees of Catholic Aged Care Sydney spokesman Michael Moore said the move secured a strong future for the home in its vital mission of caring for Sutherland Shire's elderly residents.
The three-storey St Anne's Wing provides residents with more options for aged care and accommodation, including couples' accommodation.
