Georges River Council is calling on the community to submit nominations for its 2020 Historical Markers Program, which recognises places of significance in the local government area.
The program will see markers installed in different locations, to acknowledge historical or cultural significance and educate residents and visitors on the history of the Georges River area.
The council is seeking input from the community to help identify suitable people and places, to ensure as many local stories as possible are told.
New nominations will complement markers that have been installed since the program launched in 2018, creating a growing, open-air museum of historical places.
Ten markers have been installed over the past two years, recognising significant people and places in the Georges River area.
2019 Historical Markers:
Collaroy House, Peakhurst - 764 Forest Road, Peakhurst.
"Ellesmere" camp, Sans Souci - Endeavour Street Reserve, Sans Souci.
Edmond and Elizabeth English - corner of English Street and Princes Highway, Kogarah.
Paramount/Hoyts Cinema, Mortdale - 126 Railway Parade, Mortdale.
William Currey VC MLA - 4 Regent Street, Kogarah (site of William Currey's office while he was Member for Kogarah).
2018 Historical Markers:
Sans Souci Hotel - Sans Souci Park, Sans Souci.
Michael Gannon - Forest Road, Hurstville (near Kenwyn Street/ Croydon Road).
Robert Kyle - Merriman Reserve, Kyle Bay.
Joe Anderson (King Burraga) - Ogilvy Street, Peakhurst.
Mervyn 'Merv' Lynch - Penshurst Park, Penshurst.
