Science teachers from schools across Sydney spent a day at ANSTO at Lucas Heights recently to help prepare their curriculums for the year ahead.
Teachers from 14 schools, including Heathcote High School and Inaburra School at Bangor, spent the day at a workshop run by ANSTO's education team, which provided expert advice and resources across a range of subjects and science curriculums, including Chemistry, Physics, Investigating Science and Earth, and Environmental Science.
The workshop covered highly topical areas such as what ANSTO researchers were doing in relation to climate change; the impacts of bushfires on air quality and how to monitor it.
ANSTO chief executive, Dr Adi Paterson, said the workshop provided an excellent opportunity for teachers who were passionate about science to gain new insights and key facts that would help them engage with students.
"This course was aimed at developing lesson plans that have a positive impact on student learning and about providing access to the most up-to-date information in nuclear science," Dr Paterson said.
The three-hour workshop counted towards NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Registered Professional Development and maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
