Georges River Council is now accepting applications for funding under the 2020Heritage Publication Grants Program.
Funding of up to $5,000 is available for the publication of works promoting the history, heritage and development of the Georges River area.
Georges River Council Mayor, Kevin Greene said the grants are aimed at supporting local historians and members of the community with a passion for their area and a story to tell.
"Each suburb within our LGA has many stories to tell from the individuals and icons to famous landmarks and places that we all know and love," Councillor Greene said.
"From the original custodians of the land, the Biddegal people of the Eora nation, right through to the diverse cultures from all over the world who have come to call the Georges River area home, there are so many stories to be told that contribute to the identity of our great community.
"While much of the work of Council is very much geared towards our future vision for the Georges River area, we must not forget who we are and where we've come from, which has helped to forge our identity over time.
"Council is pleased to be able to provide grant funding through this program, which will help ensure that the colourful stories and histories of our local suburbs can be recorded for future generations to learn and discover."
Applicants can apply for funding for the publication of historical works of original research or the re-publication of primary sources.
These may be in the form of books, booklets, e-books, digital media resources, documentaries, films or online.
