Another week and another game that got away for the young Sharks team who looked to be in control much of the Saturday night game against Melbourne Storm only to lose to a 76th-minute penalty goal.
The Sharks took the lead with a second-half try to local junior Billy Magoulias, only for the Storm to hit back and then steal a 12-10 win with a Cameron Smith penalty in the closing moments.
The Daryl Braithwaite hit song 'Horses' still blasted around the empty ground during the break, even though he wasn't there to sing it-but even that didn't help the Sharks get the points.
Following on from a close loss in round one, it was a classic heartbreaking way to begin the Sharks season and makes for a critical round three clash next week.
The Sharks return to their new Netstrata Jubilee home at Kogarah when they host the Newcastle Knights in a game kicking off at 3.00pm on Saturday.
The match was also the last game in a Sharks jersey for centre Josh Morris, who left to join his twin Brett at the Sydney Roosters on Monday.
The former NSW and Australian centre won't have long before coming up against his former teammates as the Sharks host the Roosters on April 12 and Morris knows what reception he can expect.
"It would have been nice to end with a win, but it is a pretty young side and they would have learned the hard way in that last 10 minutes how to close out a game," Morris said
Captain Wade Graham failed to finish the match against the Storm, but Morris said he was hopeful the foot injury that forced him from the field in the 67th minute was only minor.
In positive territory, fullback Will Kennedy always looked dangerous in attack as he settles into the NRL, whilst Brailey was strong at dummy half in his second 80-minute performance in back to back weeks, with Aaron Woods and Scott Sorensen causing some damage up front. Enigmatic former test player Josh Dugan was seen running hard and is getting close to his first appearance of the season after overcoming a knee problem.
