Detectives are appealing for public assistance after a man was found at Sutherland with multiple stab wounds and plastic shopping bags wrapped around his feet.
They particularly want to speak to a person who called 000 from a public telephone after the stabbing, which occurred several weeks ago.
" About 1am on Friday 28 February, emergency services were called to the corner of Glencoe Street and President Avenue, Sutherland following reports a man had been stabbed," a police statement said.
"Officers attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command attended to find the man with multiple stab wounds, along with Coles brand shopping bags wrapped around his feet.
"Strike Force Kiewarra has been formed to investigate the circumstances of the stabbing.
"Police are appealing for anyone who might have been in or was driving through the Sutherland area around the time of the incident, particularly if they have dash-cam footage, to come forward.
"In particular, investigators would like to speak to the person who made a call to 000 that night from a public phone in Sutherland to alert police to the stabbing."
