Bayside Council has narrowly avoided a potential revenue loss of almost half-a-million dollars from its child care centres.
Mayor Joe Awada acknowledged that as a result of the new Federal Government funding plan for Child Care Centres, there was be a potential loss of revenue to Council of up to $440,000 over the next three months.
But the State Government State Government has now committed up to $82 million to support the 260 council-run childcare centres in NSW.
"This is great news for Bayside families," Mayor Joe Awada said.
"And excellent news for Council's Child Care Centres and Council staff who were unable to access the Commonwealth's Jobkeeper payment scheme."
At the April 8 Bayside Council meeting, Councillor Awada expressed concern that the Federal Government's package offered to private child care operators had not been extended to Council-owned and operated child care centres.
"This new State Government funding means families and children can be assured their child care services can continue to operate in these uncertain times," Councillor Awada said.
"Council is currently examining the impact the NSW Government funding package will have but is positive it will be able to continue providing the services local families have come to rely upon," he said..
Bayside Council owns and operates two long day child care centres, one in Mascot and one in Hillsdale.
