Sutherland Shire Council is confident of delivering its planned $52.7 million capital works program for 2020-21 despite the impacts of coronavirus.
Proposed works are detailed in the draft Delivery Program and Operational Plan, which has been on public exhibition.
A spokeswoman said, like all sectors of the community, the council had been financially impacted by COVID-19 and public health orders.
"However, council's financial position prior to the onset of this pandemic has meant there is not a need to reduce the level of funding council has allocated to its Capital Works Program for 2020/21 or unaffected areas of its operations," she said.
"Council is still planning on delivering a $52.7 million capital works program as currently exhibited in the Draft 20201/21 Operational Plan.
"Further, council has taken the opportunity to accelerate delivery of important asset renewal, upgrade, and maintenance work in facilities impacted by public health orders, such as our libraries, art gallery, and leisure centres."
Proposed funding for dozens of projects include:
- Leisure Centres: Buildings renewal program, $1.12 million; Sutherland Leisure Centre gym upgrade, $100,000.
- Operational buildings: North Cronulla Surf Life Saving renewal works, $750,000; Sutherland School of Arts upgrade, $1.6 million, Sutherland Entertainment Centre refurbishment, $13.3 million.
- Parks: Pinnacle Street high-rise precinct, Miranda, local park, $200,000; Cronulla Park lookout commemorative artwork panels $60,000; Parc Menai basketball court, $55,000.
- Sports fields: North Caringbah Oval reconstruction, $800,000.
- Retail centres: Cronulla Town Centre Stage 2, $1.55 million.
- Roads works: total of $12.66 million.
- Waterways: Prince Street seawall rectification, $200,000.
