After being postponed before the beginning of the 2020 winter season hockey has returned with players now training at Marang Parklands Hockey Complex.
Hockey NSW has advised training can go ahead but only after an intensive effort by Sydney South Hockey Association and local clubs. The Sydney South team led by life members Carol Harriss and Lyn Smith developed COVID-19 safe training plans which had to be signed off by both Hockey NSW and Sutherland Shire Council before training could take place.
The COVID-19 safe training plans required groups be limited to no more than 10 for each half field of hockey.
Players are required to enter and leave the fields through designated points with training times staggered to limit contact between groups.
"It required an intensive effort over a number of days to put together the plans," Harriss said.
"But the benefit was seeing our players back on the field before the end of May".
