Craig Kiely, the General Manager of the St George Football Association, said as a sport and community they were excited to have returned to football and it was wonderful to see so many smiling, happy faces out on the fields once again.
"There was just so much excitement around the district in the lead up to the kick-off and its great we have been able to schedule an almost normal length season, albeit a couple of months longer than usual.
"We are proud of the way we have navigated our way through this challenging period and thank everyone for their patience, understanding and commitment."
"We ask all involved to stay vigilant and remind everyone of the importance of complying with football's return to play guidelines and NSW public health orders. These provide the framework that allows us to continue to enjoy the game we all love." Craig Kiely said
Clubs are reminded not to drop the ball yet and there are guidelines around match day to ensure clubs restart competitions, so the 9700 players in 760 teams from 23 clubs return to play in a COVID-Safe environment.

Sydney FC will open their remaining home games for Members and Corporate Supporters, albeit at a reduced capacity to adhere to the government guidelines.
The restriction is for a maximum of 25% of the stadium's capacity, which means the club needs to undertake an equitable process for Members access.
