NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced new restrictions, including a return to a maximum of 10 people per restaurant booking, as COVID cases continue to rise.
Ms Berejiklian made the announcement at this morning's COVID-19 press conference and said the return to tougher restrictions was necessary to reduce the risk of losing control of the virus.
It comes as 13 new cases have been detected in NSW. Eight were detected in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, of which two were in hotel quarantine and the remaining six were community transmissions.
A further five cases have been detected this morning.
Ms Berejiklian said everyone needed to limit their activity and think about actions to keep themselves safe.
"We also know ... that indoor activities are the greatest risk to spreading the disease," she said.
"Today, I am announcing further tightening of restrictions.
"From Friday, next week, the restrictions we'd imposed on pubs will extend now to clubs, to restaurants, to cafes and all indoor hospitality venues.
"No group bookings above 10 people. We absolutely need everyone seated in a venue."
She said weddings and corporate events would be capped at 150 - or one person per four square metres for small venues - and everyone was to remain seated.
"No dancing, no singing, no mingling," she said.
Funerals and places of worship will be capped at 100.
A maximum of 20 people will still be allowed to visit a home but Ms Berejiklian said health officials suggest 10 was a safer number.
Outdoor gatherings of 20 are still allowed at this stage.
"These measures that we're bringing in are to protect NSW," Ms Berejiklian said.
"These measures will reduce the risk of community transmission getting out of control."
More to come.
