Many people will feel they are toasting an old friend when they raise a glass to celebrate Margaret Bennett's 40 years of service with BWS Penshurst.
Margaret started working at the bottleshop as a casual when it was called Flemings Liquor.
She took time off to have her two sons but always returned to work.
"After I had my second son I wasn't going to come back," Margaret said.
"But I got a phone call from them saying would I like to come back so I did. It's close to home and it suited me with a young family."
Margaret said she has seen a lot of changes since she started working in the bottleshop.
"The area itself has changed and the customers have changed," she said.
"When I first started working I would open the door at 9am and the elderly customers would be waiting to buy their sherry and port.
"We don't see them anymore and the sherry sits on the shelf.
"We also sold lots of beer including KB, DA and Resch's Pilsener. We still get asked for Resch's Pilsener so it must still be around.
"Back when I started, there were only a couple of beers available, like Tooheys Draught, Crown Lager and Carlton. A case of twist-top beer used to cost $8.95 per carton in the 1980s.
"There was mainly cask wine or flagons of Sherry, in a two-litre glass bottle," she recalled.
"In the 1980s and 1990s, customers loved Chardonnay - the oakier the better. In the 2000s, they discovered Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, and that still remains a favourite among many wine lovers.
"We get all ages coming in and they want to buy Ready To Drink cans, craft beer and vodka cruisers.
"The young probably know more about alcohol than their parents or grandparents but there's also more choice.
"And we still get the elderly coming in who must be living by themselves and just want to have a chat.
"I just enjoy meeting all sorts of people."
Many of Margaret's customers have moved out of Penshurst over the years, and when they return to visit family and friends in the area they pop in to the BWS to grab a bottle of wine.,
"They're always amazed that I'm still behind the counter. They're happy to see me, she said.
"I find Penshurst is a village atmosphere. You walk down the street and you will always bump into someone who wants to stop you and have a chat.
"It's always been very friendly and that hasn't changed."
BWS area manager Stephen Morrow said that the team has enjoyed celebrating Margaret's milestones over the years.
"She's a well respected team member, and admired for her go-to attitude and the great life experience she brings to the store," he said.
Margaret is not sure when she will give up working at the bottleshop.
"My husband, Garry is retired and keeps asking me when I am going to retire.
"He says to me, 'You still want to get up and go so you must still be enjoying it.' I ask myself when I am going to stop but I'm not sure.
"I love the job and Woolworths are good to work for."
When the time comes for her to call last orders, Margaret knows what her tipple will be.
"I like sparking wines, champagne," she said.
