USE, an exhibition of contemporary jewellery and small objects by seventeen artists from the Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Australia's Queensland Chapter (JMGQ) is now on display at the Hurstville Museum and Gallery.
Showing from August 1 to October 25, USE will feature more than 70 works of sophisticated, quirky and intricate design using an array of traditional and non-traditional materials.
The works range from jewellery pieces to expressive pieces that are less functional, though equally impressive as small sculptural objects.
USE Curator Lisa Bryan-Brown said the USE exhibition celebrates jewellery and small objects from the point of view of the maker, their tools and the making process.
"From traditional utensils like hammers, saws and pliers, to modern innovations like 3D printers and laser-cutting machines, tools are essential in the creation of jewellery and small objects works," Ms Bryan-Brown said .
USE is a touring exhibition in partnership between Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Australia (Queensland Chapter) Inc. and Museums and Galleries Queensland.
This project is supported by the Visions regional touring program, an Australian Government program aiming to improve access to cultural material for all Australians; the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland; the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body; Liveworm Studio; and the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University.
USE is touring to 12 Australian galleries from 2019 to 2021 and showcase works by Helen Bird, Jac Dyson, Lois Hayes, Catherine Hunter, Alicia Lane, Catherine Large, Samuel Lintern, Andy Lowrie, Nellie Peoples, Clare Poppi, Kierra-Jay Power, Paola Raggo, Elizabeth Shaw, Katie Stormonth, Rebecca Ward, Helen Wyatt, Xiaohui Yang.
