While the Angelo Anestis Aquatic Centre (AAAC) at Bexley has opened its indoor pool the outdoor pool will remain closed until the weather becomes from September onwards.
Last month, the St George Swim Club petitioned Bayside Council to reopen the Bexley pool to allow its young swimmers to recommence training.
At that stage, the pool's manager, BlueFit chose to open the gymnasium under strict conditions and keep the pools closed until 1 July 2020, when the arrangement was to be reviewed in accordance with Public Health Order requirements.
At the July 27 meeting of the Bayside Council sports and recreation committee, Councillor James Macdonald asked for an update on the Bexley Aquatic Centre and when the outdoor pool would reopen.
Committee members felt the heating of the outdoor pool would need to commence in August in order for the pool to be reopened by September.
The committee recommended that the council's Manager Sport and Recreation would raise with BlueFit the minimum expectation for the operator to commence the heating of the outdoor pool this month in order to have the outdoor pool opened from September.
The Bexley Aquatic Centre's indoor pool reopened on July 20 with lap swimming available in limited lanes.
From July 27 weekday afternoon and Saturday morning squad sessions were to be held at Peakhurst West Pool until the outdoor pool reopens.
Swim school returned on July 27 and aqua classes on August 4.
