There have been seven new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in NSW up to 8pm last night, of which six were locally acquired and one was in hotel quarantine.
It comes after five new cases were reported yesterday for the 24 hours to 8pm Saturday night and nine new cases were reported Saturday for the previous day.
The latest COVID-19 update provided by NSW Health's Dr Jeremy McAnulty today said there were 117 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health. Of those, seven were in intensive care and five were being ventilated.
One of the biggest concerns is the growing school clusters, which has caused NSW Health to today release updated COVID Safe guidelines for all NSW schools, which will come into effect on Wednesday.
Under the guidelines, choirs will be banned, as will the use of wind instruments.
School formals, dances, graduations and other social events will not go ahead and parents will be banned from attending end-of-year 12 assemblies.
Two of the new cases reported today are close contacts of a case linked to the Our Lady of Mercy College at Parramatta. The cluster now stands at six, with the source still under investigation.
A large cluster at Tangara School for Girls at Cherrybrook stands at 25 today, after three new COVID-19 cases diagnosed to 8pm on Saturday were linked to the school.
Another of the today's new cases attended Sydney Girls High school at Surry Hills while infectious on August 6, 7, 10 and 11.
The school is closed today for cleaning and is due to reopen tomorrow.
A planned trial HSC exam was cancelled.
Contact tracing is under way.
As at 1pm today, there are no case locations in St George and Sutherland Shire where increased testing and surveillance, self-isolation or monitoring for symptoms is required.
However, there is concern about two restaurants on the South Coast, an area popular with residents from this area.
People have been asked to self-isolate and get tested immediately if they visited Wildginger restaurant at Huskisson on Saturday, August 8, between 7.45pm and 10.30pm, or Rick Stein at Bannisters, Mollymook, on Saturday, August 1, for one hour or more between 8pm and 10.30pm.
