Sutherland Shire Council will review the pre-booked household clean-up service to see if waiting times can be reduced.

Under the system introduced in 2012, residents can book two clean-ups each financial year.

Cr Carmelo Pesce moved for a review at Monday night's council meeting, saying "If we are going to provide a service, we need to do it a little bit better".

Cr Pesce said one resident wrote to him, saying they booked a clean-up last week and will have to wait five months for it to take place.

"I think we should be looking at what other councils do and examining the options," he said.

There was unanimous support for the review, which will be carried out by council officers.

The findings will be presented to the Waste and Recycling Working Party for its consideration and subsequently presented to council.

The present system was introduced at the end of 2012 for a trial period of 12 months and proved so successful it was extended.

Before that, there was no booking system and residents placed clean-up items out on two allocated days a year, which led to a great deal of illegal dumping.
