Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a driver and his passenger whose car crashed doing a burnout in the main street of Brighton-Le-Sands about lunchtime yesterday.
CCTV showed the expensive white Holden GTS speeding down Bay Street towards the beach before hitting a median strip and flagpole, causing the pole to snap.
Two men are seen walking off.
The crash occurred about 11.40am in Bay Street, where the behaviour of car hoons has been a problem for many years.
"The male driver of the Holden and his male passenger exited the car and left the scene prior to the arrival of police," a police statement said.
"They were last seen walking south down a lane off Bay Street.
"Officers from St George Police Area Command and the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attended the scene and have commenced inquiries.
"Police would like to speak to two males they believe may be able to assist them with their inquiries.
"Both men are described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance and aged in their mid-20s to mid-30s.
"The driver is further described as having a short dark beard and was seen wearing a blue t-shirt, light coloured shorts, sunglasses and white sneakers.
"The passenger was last seen wearing a black jacket and a black shirt with red track pants.
"Anyone with information about the crash - or anyone with dashcam vision - is urged to come forward."
