Sutherland Shire Historical Society's October meeting will be one not to miss.
The guest speaker will be Paul Brunton, OAM, Emeritus Curator of the State Library of New South Wales.
Mr Brunton was Senior Curator at the Mitchell Library from 2002-2012, and Curator of Manuscripts from 1986 to 2001.
Society president Pauline Curby said Mr Brunton's illustrated talk was called "Quest for the legendary Great South Land".
It will take us back to antiquity and the very first maps of the world as it was then known.
- Pauline Curby
"It will take us back to antiquity and the very first maps of the world as it was then known," Ms Curby said.
"Paul will discuss the expeditions of Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, French and British seafarers who braved unknown seas with little or no navigational aids.
"This story is, in Paul's words, 'one of the great narratives of all time'."
The meeting, which will be open to all-comers, will be held at 1.30pm on Saturday October 17 in the Stapleton Centre, 3A Stapleton Avenue, Sutherland, a short walk from Sutherland station.
