It was a weekend to forget for Sutherland's first-class cricket team, suffering two losses away from home.
In Saturday's NSW Premier Cricket round six matchup against Western Suburbs Sutherland had put up a decent score of 285 in the first innings with Tom Doyle top-scoring with 91 and James Arnold chipping in with a fighting 42.
But Western Suburbs had other ideas hitting back with a clinical 7/286, just doing enough to get the points with bowlers Daniel Fallins 3-109, Tom Doyle 2-47 doing the hard work.
On Sunday it was the St George v Sutherland feature match of the Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup-with the young Poidevin-Gray Shield and the first-grade doubleheader at Hurstville Oval.
After a Saints chase collapsed in the Poidevin -Gray preview match the Sutherland young guns took the win with 5/129 defeating their neighbours 8/108.
In first grade which became the first multi-camera broadcast of Premier Cricket to be streamed live, the fourth-placed Sutho went in as favourites over last-placed Saints in the Sydney Sixers conference.
Only three points were separating fourth from ninth on the ladder and the final standings will be decided after the last round on November 29.
Saints were boosted by a remarkable Saturday win with a big Andrew Walsh double century gifting a last-ball win over North Sydney.
Walsh finished with 208 from 209 balls with 15 fours and 15 six's. The highest ever score by a No.8 batsman in 1st Grade Cricket.
On Sunday and batting first, the Saints got off to a massive start thanks to Luke Bartier who finished with 67 off 40 balls.
He was the difference punishing returned Sutherland bowler Tom Pinson, but just as St George looked like they were heading to an unbeatable 180 plus score, the Sutherland bowlers hit back and restricted them to a manageable 8-145, with Ben Dwarshuis 2-17 and Andrew Ritchie taking 2-23.
In their chase, Sutherland seemed to be on target for victory with Chris Williams hitting a fighting 57no, but the Saints bowlers kept things tight taking key wickets and setting up the win, Sutherland finishing just two runs short on 6-143.
